Halo is Ortana’s highly configurable, truly hybrid media orchestration SaaS platform that allows you to seamlessly manage, index and orchestrate your media and metadata, both on-premise and in the cloud.
We believe that you should be able to "try before you buy" with your content and your environment.
Get Started LoginBuilt using Ortana’s Cubix platform you are able to define business rules and media workflows to suit your exact needs. Our ethos is that technology should wrap around you, not the other way around. With over 150 native API integrations across a broad range of technologies, Halo acts as your content orchestration hub.
This true hybrid approach is important for clients to be able to achieve the best of both by leveraging the scale and power of the cloud, but minimising costs by managing and processing content ‘at the edge’ where possible.
Halo includes default workflows for common requirements or de-duplication, indexing, AI tagging, replication, distribution and delivery. But these can be fully adapted to suit your speciic needs.
Often people hear SaaS and believe everything must be in the cloud - but this is not the case with Halo. Being truly hybrid, content can be easily managed on premise from a "SaaS" platform.
Complete with full auditing, 2FA support across all portals, data encrypted at rest and in transit - you can ensure the security of your content, metadata and users. Halo can also be deployed to be fully SOC2 / TPN compliant.
Any cloud based or on premise storage can be used with Halo including HSMs / LTO robots to allow Halo to perform a ‘deep dive’ on incoming content ingest, acquiring as much technical and editorial metadata about an asset as is possible.
As well as video, live sources, image and audio, Halo reads camera metadata (inc. EXIF and BEXT) from all major DSLR and pro cine camera formats along with complex assets such as DPX sequences and DCPs.
Halo’s MediaRules engine allows you to fully automate the task of media management. Based on an ‘if this, do that’ approach, you can define content replication rules between storage locations for both on-premise and cloud storage.
Halo works on a BYOB ('Bring Your Own Buckets') method by integrating with your own cloud storage accounts and on-premise infrastructure. Rules can be configured to purge content from any given location once its confirmed as stored in one or more of your ‘archive' locations.
Halo allows for content sync between locations, e.g. ‘premise to premise point to point transfers’ using UDT or ‘premise to cloud to premise’ using storage solutions such as Storj as a distribution or delivery platform.
Via its API support, Halo natively allows the defining of rules for AWS S3 storage classes, automatically ‘chilling’ content all the way down to Deep Glacier based on business rules.Other Halo MediaRules includes proxy generation, AI indexing, checksum generation and more.
We understand the importance of metadata, and so support the ability in Halo for unlimited metadata schemas to be configured, with each schema mapped to one or more ‘types’ of content (e.g. type of content, different collections, departments, etc.).
These schemas can be either flat or hierarchical, and can be populated either from external sources, the source content itself (e.g. EXIF), AI / ML engines or even manually.
Halo then creates a connection between an asset and metadata, that we call ‘tagging’, and this allows for media to come before metadata, or vice versa, so is truly asynchronous.
Metadata can be stored at an asset level, or at a track / timecode level allowing for deep logging.
Enriching assets with metadata allows for them to be browsed more easily in a logical structure, and not one that needs to simply reference the source folder structure.
Working on an edit? Quickly browse and filter content if you know what you are after, or make use of AI enriched metadata to discover content in you archive.
Halo is already integrated with 21 AI / ML engines for indexing and translating content, allowing you to augment existing assets with new metadata using Speech to Text, Image Labelling, Landmark Detection, OCR, Face Detection and even Explicit Content.
Translate all your editorial and AI metadata and subtitles into practically any language using our range of AI services - vastly improving the discoverability of content.
Pick and choose exactly which AI to use when, with Halo being able to feed results from one engine into another and storing all the resulting data in your configurable editorial schemas. Run on demand on a per asset basis or build into your workflows.
Halo can either drive your own accounts with the supported AI providers, or Ortana provides via Halo a cost effective PAYG model for using AI as needed.
Halo indexes video using cloud AI/ML engines, without needing to ship the any video to cloud storage, or provide the AI / ML engine with direct access. Instead, it extracts a full raster frame every x frames and sends this to the chosen engine(s). The results are then rebuilt into a timeline. This method improves security as well as allowing for the cost of the video indexing to be adjusted depending on how intensely the content type needs indexing.
Transcodes to a very wide range of web and broadcast formats including ProRes©, DNxHR©, FFV1, HLS, HEVC and AV1, with supports for content up to 12K raster and up to 32 audio channels.
Our Cloud Transcoder Includes support for most camera formats (including RED and ARRI), DPX sequences and DCPs, scales globally and encodes ‘in region’ to avoid egress costs where possible.
Halo even supports the creation of native Avid proxies, and proxies for use within Adobe Premiere.
Use the same technology, but deployed on premise within your own facilities, with your own compute. Halo will manage and orchestrate all your transcode jobs for you
Using proxy first replication through MediaRules / Taskflow allows proxies to be replicated into cloud storage ahead of the ‘heavy’ full resolution asset. This allows for content to not only be reviewed before the high res is replicated, but also to allow for a shot selection to be done.
Our Halo Portal allows your users to search and view content, regardless where it is stored, using online proxies and the enriched metadata.
The Portal is designed to be fully white labelled, and multiple portals are supported for different access rights / collections.
Users can leverage your metadata schema to search, filter and browse as well as request an asset to be ‘enriched’ via any configured AI / ML engines.
The frame accurate player allows your users to review and select content as well as leave comments.
Users can create and share bins of content either within the Portal, or by using our Halo Review & Approve Portal.
Bins can also be placed into the basket to trigger a range of standard distribution and publishing Taskflows, as well as your own custom Taskflows.
Halo comes with many standard Taskflows (workflows) to handle content acquisition, asset management, augmentation, metadata and delivery. You can further customise Halo to meet your specific needs by designing Custom Taskflows using our no-code “drag n drop” designer.
Our Taskflow engine is a fully abstracted orchestration solution that allows you to drive any element of the Halo architecture including all the asset management and integration capabilities. See the Why Cubix page for a moire detailed explanation.
Due to it being fully abstracted, the Taskflows do not need to be media centric allowing them to be used for provisioning requirements as well as media orchestration.
Halo offers a fully documented RESTful API for you to use, allowing you to integrate Halo further into your own infrastructure with your own in-house developed applications.
